Hey just wondering is there any way I can drive a car I just bought from Dublin to Limerick to a mechanic to get some work done on it before I submit it to NCT test ?
The car has been off the road for over 2 years so both tax and NCT has expired.
Im just wondering is there any option available to me to drive the car ie can you get an exemption etc from the guards or anything like that?
    Thanks

the most painless way imo would be to buy 3 months tax and book the NCT. or tow it there.

you'd need tax and NCT and Insurance to tow it. A recovery truck would be bst option...or as said tax it and book the NCT and you'd be OK I guess. Need insurance of course.

I just did some googling. I was shocked to find that there are several mechanics working in Dublin! Who'd a thunk it?!?

Do it on Christmas Day. They'd hardly be on checkpoint duty then.... would they?

Might be cheaper overall to get the work done in Dublin before moving the car is all. And a lot less hassle. Then tax the car, book an nct in Limerick, and drive it down free and clear.

The flaw in that plan is, if the OP gets caught and he encounters a Gard who is not in the festive mood due to having to do overtime during the XMas, he could end up with 5 points.
Strictly speaking, if the NCT is out on your car and you're driving it, you're relying on the good will of the Gards.

May as well tax it anyway, you'll be paying back to1st of the month you bought it anyway

Stick insurance on it and wait for the gale force winds and rain and away with you and hope you don't have a conversation starting with,"Windy out tonight Guard".

Yep, sucks if anyone buys a car at 11:59 pm on the 31st.:P
(well, on the docket anyway and I don't think they work that late in Shannon)

There is no exemptions for recently bought cars.
Driving a car with no discs across country would probably not amuse any garda you might encounter.
I take you live in Limerick and went to the pale to buy a parked up car?

Trailer it can be cheaper than a fine and penalty points.
