The Irish International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation was founded in Dublin Ireland, working in partnership with the LBJJ.

Since its inception, the IIBJJF has been to create quality, reliable competitions that administer the rules fairly to all competitors. The IIBJJF’s inaugural event, the 2013 Open FireBlack BJJ Championship saw the implementation of a style of rules that are familiar to every experienced Jiu Jitsu competitor but eliminate a significant amount of the problem of referee bias from competition. The IIBJJF will to organize around 6 competitions during the year, GI and NO GI championships in Ireland, including Pro Pan-American, Pro European and Pro world championship.

Since Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is constantly evolving and becoming more popular around the globeit is just natural that the major tournaments generate a lot of media coverage in the world, from television channels to magazines and internet sites, when a competition like World or Pan–American Jiu-Jitsu Championship takes place the eyes of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community and the grappling world in general turn to see it. This has generated a very strong consumer market and every year more and bigger companies choose to associate their brands and/or products to major events.

We will be releasing this year the IIBJJF Magazine and IIBJJF SportTV, that a idea is promote to all competitors who are part of our family.

Why are you guys running a tournament called the pan Americans, In Ireland?

You lads are almost as big a group of scam artists as the organization you are ripping off.

To be honest, I'n not really comfortable with how similar your name is to both the Irish Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association, and the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation.

It might be a good idea to start naming names of who's running your show, and some kind of official contact address, or I'm probably going to lock this up until I've run it by the admins.

I am a jaded and cynical man. I kind of expect this kind of stuff.

This is a complete lie, this 'organization' is looking to make money out of those who are new to the sport or don't know any better

Have these guys not ran a couple of tourneys already this year?

Has there been major issues with them ?

    Chris89 and slammer.
For those of us who don't have a clue what's going on here.
Would you explain what's going on and why you have a problem with these guys.

They have a tournament called the pan americans and their name is essentially the same as the organisation who run the REAL pan ams and europeans (IBJJF) I'm not sure if they have anyone Irish on their board, not that that really matters but certainly helps paint the picture.

Their tournament last week was hours and hours behind schedule, heard of people being dq'd for 50/50, kneebars in black belt divisions, refs decisions being overruled, Different round times for the same divisions, dodgy scoring the list goes on.

Didn't see any of the coaches or members at the training day we had for the real euros. These guys are not members of the community.

I'm sure the guys behind this are cool but their organization stinks. The dodgy name, and the advertising is making them look like something they are not.

Thanks Chris. Your reply helps to better see the whole picture

Not to mention the promised 1,000 euro for the winner of the Advanced division at the last tournament.....yea that didn't happen...

Also the fact that for some matches in the same divisions weren't even running the right time keeping for the matches!...I witnessed 2 mats running at the same time for the advanced division where one mat was using 10 minute time limits whilst the other was using 7 minute time limits?? When there's people traveling from different countries to compete in this it's not as if the extra 3 minutes and 1,000 euro matter??

Registration fee was also 30 euro and they managed to run out of gold medals...

Hang on. The winner didn't get his prize?

Who won and did he not make a big deal out of that and demand the money?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 145 ✭✭slammer187

I left the tournament at this stage so I couldn't give you the exact details but the general idea of what happened was that the guy who won the final won by and advantage but the guy that lost protested it and the decision was overturned (in real IBJJF tournaments they have 3 referees for black belt finals so mistakes like this don't happen) then the guy that originally won complained so the organizers decided to split the money between the two finalists 50/50 or something along those lines

Hopefully someone who was actually there for this can give the whole story

Please don't tell me one was from their club

the final is up on the irish ibjjf facebook page , according to the guy who put it up he said himself and his gracie barra teammate closed the bracket (still fought ) and split the money , he didnt have any complaints in the few posts he put up there.

for me calling these comps the euros or the pan ams or whatever else is a bit of a joke , i dont think anybody thought they were competing at the euros last week. as regards running behind schedule i dont know if it was or not because there was no schedule available ;)

there was some good points to the two comps they ran so far and it is only their second comp so i dont mind allowing for some initial mistakes in the running of it, I wont have a problem going to their next ones , but scheduling and communication is definetly not good enough and needs improvement

yeah i remember those , they were a poor standard , i know some of the iibjjf are the same lads but i dont know who everyone involved in it is so i called it their second comp but no denying there's lads with experience running some comps involved alright

Compare either of those competitions with the Dublin opens debut event the other month. iibjjf boys aren't even trying.

A BJJ Blackbelt was screaming at me at a tournament before. Stupid white belt , don't know the rules because I was working a table and awarding points the ref was giving. It's not like I was making them up. Saying I was biased etc.

My opinion is if they have all these avenues to sponsors and prize money, why not team up / reach out to the already respected and established IBJJA. Barry and Liam and everyone who helps with these tournaments. They all run very smoothly now so why not get some money behind them, if there are organizations willing to sponsor it!

Perhaps the IIBJJIF see Money can be made so will run poor tournaments to make some money.
