The passing of a very brave woman. I hope her efforts this year lead to a compassionate approach to assisted suicide in the future, even if it's too late for her.

My thoughts are with her wonderful devoted partner at this sad time.

RIP it's an awful shame that the law of this country chose not to allow her to pass of her own volition.

The State has done her a disservice.

May she now rest in peace. Very brave of her to take her fight all the way and also very brave of Tom to support her decision and fight as he would have been the one to help if the courts had ruled with her. My thoughts and prayers are with Tom and her family at this tough time.

Its seldom we see one man/woman take on a body as large as a government for something they truly believe in. She is an inspiration.

Rights for everyone all the way, the last taboo's have almost been eradicated. Yet in this 21st century, the rights of an individual do not matter. If someone is compos mentis, well informed and capable of making reasoned judgement. Then who if anyone has a right to deny them their self autonomy in making such decision. I am a medical professional and I certainly have no right prolonging any individual's suffering. Of course ensuring that an individual is protected and is not being coerced into making such decision should be paramount. But maybe if those 'suits' in the hallowed halls of power, witnessed firsthand the suffering those denied their right have to endure. Maybe then they might see some sense. RIP Mary, your true dignity and courage shames us all.

I really hope the poor woman didn't suffer a traumatic death. If an animal was suffering the way she had been you'd not leave it to linger on in misery. The hse trying to take away her medical card recently was just another way to kick this brave woman when she was down. What a lovely compassionate country we live in.

At least her suffering is over now and her family don't have to live that with her any more. My thoughts are with them too. RIP Marie.

In a way it's a blessing her battle has ended but it's horrible for her family for it to happen so close to christmas

    RIP Marie

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

The State failed in their duty of care to this woman, by not allowing her to pass on her own terms. May she now have the rest she deserves, and may her message not be in vain...

A sad day for her family, but hopefully her name will live on and ultimately cause changes in the laws of this country.

    May she RIP.
