So I was walking along to work minding my own business to bedisturbed by shouting. I look over and see 3 guys shouting out the windowslagging somebody about their coat. Obviously they didn’t know the guy and hewas not impressed. Anyway it didn’t surprise me as it is common enough. The bitI don’t understand is what are grown adult doing acting like that? From a 13year old I expected it but adult it is just moronic.

This is not just a bit of fun either as I have seen this getnasty before. One guy just threw his hot coffee straight in the window whensomebody did it. I have seen more thanone cyclist scratch a van intentionally after a passenger screamed boo at him.

What the hell is going on in their minds? It isn’t harmlessfun

I remember being in the car with my dad years ago at the top of Tara Street. We were waiting at the lights to go over the bridge. A long haired greasy rocker (it was the era of rockers & ravers) crossed the road in front of us. With that my dad rolled down the window and roared at him "here, rocker, go home and have a shower ye smelly f~cker!".. Lights changed and off my dad drove beeping and waving, happy with himself for throwing a bit of stick at his nephew. I turned around to look and said rocker, who I could see was clearly no relation to us was gesticulating wildly and shouting what I imagine was far from praise at us.

If people are taught that gratuitously insulting people they DO know is 'craic' and 'banter', why would they think differently about insulting people they DON'T know or care about?

I don't agree joking with friends is easily disguisable from doing so to a complete stranger. Calling a friend "tubby" versus shouting it out the window at a stranger it is easy to see the difference.

That's a ridiculous argument, there's no relation. It's like saying if you ride your spouse, how do you know it's inappropriate to ride everyone else.

I think the dad mistook the rocker for his also a rocker nephew and was slagging him but it wasnt so he inadvertently hurt an innocent rockers feelings.

Best way to handle random abuse is pretend you didnt hear and keep asking them to repeat it, eventually they'll just get annoyed and stop.

or beat them to death with their own shoes, y'know whatevers easiest

I was doing a bit work a while back which involved me and two other lads wearing hi-viz jackets at the side of the road :D Along comes a rather obese traveler kid about 14 I'd say on his sulky screaming abuse and profanities at us as he passed  just lovely  no kid I don't work for the council which you seem to hate so much  even though said council bends over backwards to accommodate your "cultural needs"

Another time I was walking to a mates house and I passed two scrawny skangers. "Y'or gay" is what I got  Thanks, I didn't know that and there's me wasting my time chasing the wimmenz. I was very tempted to knock the sh*t out of the two of them for the craic but I was carrying a few bottles of beer so beer is more important.

You weren't there. It did happen and I would have loved if they got out of the crappy Micra that was probably bought by their parents. You don't know how aggressive I am or how brave these little toe rags were. They sped off so your theory is wrong.

I knocked somebody wing mirror off too and they drove away in fear.

    You know nothing of me.

'Doing a bit of work' as in clamping someone's car is it?

I'm convinced people are drawing this abuse upon themselves

Not really. Why would you call your friend Tubby? When people are taught that insulting other people is clever, that behaviour carries over. After all, if it's clever to call your friend Tubby and you get away with it, why not some random stranger.

People feel that they can't say that they find "slagging" by a "friend" hurtful, especially in the case of being picked on over physical attributes. It's interesting that when it is done by a stranger, they DO feel that it is out of line.

I'm feeling left out. Nothing has been thrown at me and no-ones roared any abuse at me for ages. Though I Parked the van a bit "viewblockingly" there the other day and some lad started roaring "oy, OY!" across the filling station at me. I enquired as to his future plans and how his health had been lately and he decided to lower the volume a bit. Is this throwing and shouting a common occurrence? I always miss the exciting stuff.
