Geothermal Underfloor Heating - Question

    Hi Guys,

While I was getting my house pumped, the insulation guy mentioned that his son was a contractor and was at a conference in German regarding underfloor heating. He said it was advised at the conference to lay high gauge polythene (must be black?) over the top of the floor insulation, just below the underfloor pipes.

Has anyone on this site done this...would it be advisable? The reason im asking is because its not something my UFH contractor has mentioned...so I would just like to throw it out there to get peoples opinion on it.

    Thanks !!

Some people tape the boards more put down a sheet of plastic between insulation and screed

why do you think this is your ufh contractors problem? it's yours or your arch/engs

    Thanks for the reply Byran.

I didnt think it was the ufh contractors problem, I was just wondering if it was indeed a benefit to me (and his system) he would have mentioned it as an option for me to consider. Since posting my first comment I have spoken to him about this...he doesnt think its of much benefit..but if I wanted to I could..but id have to use "light" material as the thick stuff will not allow the plastic staples for holding down the pipes to penetrate it.

I was just keen to get a sense of the opinions on the forum regarding this...I was thinking it cant do any harm :-)

    Thanks
