    Hi
If someone has left their home due to ill health and there is no one living there. Is there a way of postponing the tv license which is up for renewal. Until they go do return .

Under the strict ruling of why you need a TV licence (if you have any capability of receiving a TV signal!) then I would say yes. They make you pay for holiday homes so they might not see much difference here!

The TV licence system is very bad anyway. In rented accommodation, those renting may only stay a few months & a licence must be purchase for a full year. There must be some way around OPs query.

Not related to OPs issue really but a general criticism of this new system is that if you have two houses (or indeed are renting for a short period) you would have to pay a fee even if you don't have a television or aerial once they implement it for the online services as well!

So you could have people who don't watch television or use the RTE Player and associated services having to pay multiple fees!?

It's all changing next year anyway when they bring in the broadcasting charge.

One way of overcoming them backdating it is to change the name on the TV licence (ie don't go in with your renewal notice-just go to a post office and buy a new licence) Discovered this by accident a few years ago

Regarding moving, you can easily transfer your license to your new home-you just email them the details

Lyn thats ok changing address but in rented accommodation between students, the money would be divided between all living there. Whatsmore students only take acc for less than 9 months. We need a new system.
