Looks like Silva failed due to elevated testosterone. He's been forced to give up his bonus and Hunt will get it now instead.

    Here's part of his statement:
Clarification: Months before my fight I looked for the UFC doctor Marcio Tannure in Brazil so I could start the hormonal replacement "TRT" which was authorized and recognized by a professional. I started the treatment and 2 weeks before my fight I did all the exams required by the UFC. My testosterone level continued to be low so I was recommended by the doctor to increase the dosage. Unfortunately my level increased too much and caused me to suspend. I only did what was recommended by someone trained who understands about the subject therefore it was not my mistake. I'm cool because I know that the mistake was not made by me,I never tried doing anything wrong for my fight.

Kinda shítty how it slightly tarnishes the fight but at the same time I don't have any sympathy for those who fail drug tests.

Gonna be more and more of these as current fighters get older. Really hugs a fine line since even with permission a slight change in dosage can send you over

They should just retire so :p

    Easier said then done. :pac:
How many fighters keep going long after they should have retired? Most of them know nothing else (or just need the money for whatever reason) and while the opportunity for them to stay around at the highest level just a bit longer exists, theyre gonna use it.
Only way its gonna get stopped is to take TRT away completely, and tbh I dont see that happening. And even with it taken away officially, plenty will still try.

The doctor has to take some blame here if Silvas statement is true. He increased the dosage which caused him to fail the test.

I don't think they'll ever ban TRT. I think the best thing they can do to deter fighters is make the penalties more severe.
If fighters knew that a failed test would result in an automatic $50k fine and a year suspension, it would surely lower the instances of failed drug tests.

Gutted. Definitely tarnishes the fight for me. It should be banned. If you have low testosterone then retire. Simple as.

With this though, you can't blanket fine people $50k. Some of the prelim guys wouldn't make that in a year and people like Jones, Silva or GSP would pay it like it was nothing.

But yea, harsher punishment for the as they're never going to ban it.

Yeah I agree. I just used $50k as an example. It would probably have to be on a case by case basis.

IMO it should be banned. If you cant get up for a fight or camp you should stop.
