See http://www.journeyplanner.transportforireland.ie/cp/ for the new cycle planning website - nice to see the Dublin Bikes integrated into the planning process (though I haven't tested this out yet)

I saw a mention of an Android app, though I haven't laid my hands on it yet.

Am I right in thinking that the web planner only allows me to combine Dublin Bikes with other bike trips, and not with other forms or transport? This is exactly the opposite to my needs. If I have my own bike with me, why would I lock it up and take a Dublin Bike? I take a Dublin Bike when I'm going on the bus or the Luas, but not when I'm on the bike.

Doesn't seem to add up for me.

Hmmm. I just tried a couple of test routes on the website and tried to combine Dublin Bikes with public transport, but I think you're right- it gave me a choice between DBs and PT, but not a combination. The original Journey Planner tab on the site also seems not to have an option to include DBs for onward journeys.

    Time for the Feedback button?

Looks reasonably good. I randomly asked it for an "easy" route and allowed maximal climbing (bit of a contradiction there, but I know what they mean) and it gave me a fairly direct and plausible route. It wasn't able to give me an elevation profile, which I thought was a bit disappointing. And it gave me a route I would very definitely not be able to find without good cycle route signage or a satnav or a lot of stopping and starting to puzzle over the directions - lots of turns with only 60 metre or 80 metre stretches of road between them.

Will be interesting to see whether we ever get the signage or whether the motto is going to be that "there's an app for that."

It will depend on the amount of data available. Dublin / Central Dublin will have the best data.

The app is now available if people want to try it out.
