cows with swollen back passage

went away friday came back saturday, when i was milking saturday evening 3 cows where very swollen behind, 2 of them had been ai'ed earlier in the week and the other is well on in calf... only change in the group is the bull went in... the swelling is down nearly fully today but what would cause this? i washed them off…
