I observe the increasing use of buke to describe a tome of bound paper. I was brought up to refer to it as a book, like the majority of the world.
Why is buke becoming more prevalent?

I suffer aurally from the expanding operation of the pronunciation buke.
I've never heard it outside Ireland.

I hear it referred to a "buke" up north. Not a new thing

Does buke rhyme with Luke? Does book rhyme with look?

Buke is real Dublinese, and there's nothing wrong with that . . .

Book, although like "Mum" and "Ma" it'll probably get me labeled a trecherous west-brit liberal pinko brown/blue*shirt.

*not sure which one, couldn't give a flying monkey's.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I think Buke is from up around the more northern counties. It is, of course, totally incorrect.

Only ever hear Dubs and people from Mayo saying buke.

The "oo" sound in 'ooze' or 'boots' isn't questioned is it.
Personally say book and cook to rhyme with boots. People need to get over this one.
