I see that the Beast is on the move. Its now listed on the TI site for Saturday the 19th of September, with the swim in Glendalough. Haven't yet heard details of the rest of the course.

That's an interesting move! It's pretty rare to have the chance to swim in Glendalough (National Parks don't give out many permits), and its a magical place for a swim. Anything on the bike from there can only mean hills (they could almost keep their current bike course, although I'd like to see the end of the rough surface on the Rathdrum road), and there are a million fantastic trail route choices for the run.

I'd imagine the course is the same. Prob moved due to them not getting national series...sept would actually be a nice time for BOTE.

edit: ah didn't realise swim had moved

Did the Glendalough swim last year and its class.
    Looking forward to this already

Good to have something in the East around this time.

Any idea what sort of bike and run courses are being considered? Loads of great scope for trail runs from the lake, and sure yiz can hardly make it hillier than previous runs...

    Hi Kurt
The exact route is still being finalised and more details will appear on the website closer to the time. It will remain a decent challenge with some climbs on the cycle and the views will be fantastic.

Hmm. A week after the Openwaterswimmer event in the same location. Great location, looking forward to both. Hope the bike surface isn't as patchy as last year.

Thanks for all the interest in this event. Bike surface is much better this year (its frozen for most of the year!) with a sting about a mile long just before T2. 2 km climb straight off bike on the most beautiful and scenic run on the calender but remember, what goes up.............can go up again !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and again. a sting in the tail 1 km from the most beautiful finish in triathlon this side of Kona, Glendalough. Hope to launch race in the next 2 weeks. Will be limited to 300 so early registration is advised, over 100 enquiries to date.

    Great feed afterwards.

    Hi Folks.
Just a small piece of info.

Your 2 photographers from last 2 years are planning on covering BOTE for you.
A pity it missed the National rating this year, but it's too good an event and now location to miss.

So see you there in Sept.
    Rgds all.
    Diese

Any update on 2014 BOTE? It'd be great to get some definite details on the course and when registration will be open. The old event was one of the best, hopefully the 2014 version can match it.

    Paulii,

The swim is in the upper lake in Glendalough, Bike climbs from transition , past the Glenmacnass waterfall and on to the X roads at the top of the Sally Gap, decend and climb up Luggala, Roundwood , Laragh and half way up the Shay Elliot at Drumgoff. Run is back through the National park on an undulating run all on fire road to the finish back at the upper lake in Glendalough. Hope this tickles your fancy and we hope to see you on the 13th september next.

Thanks for those details, that's a serious route! Sounds like the run will be a little easier that the older route but you've packed a few more climbs into the cycle. I like the sound of it, certainly plenty of motivation to get out training.
