So Levy's pulled the trigger on AVB rightly or wrongly, who now will Levy and Baldeni turn to as the next Spurs manager? I just hope it's not Capello!

Create a poll. (not quite sure how you do that, but anyway)

    Hoddle
    Capello
    Harry Redknapp
    Klinsmann
    Laudrup
    Di Matteo
    Martinez
    Clarke
    Baldini
    Jol
    Mancini
    DeBoer
    Hiddink
    Sherwood/Freund
Pleat - (can't have a vacancy without Pleat been in the mix)

    Who else is linked?

If Hoddle is appointed does that mean we all must have done something terrible in a former life?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,473 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

I can stick a poll up the problem is there are so many names of managers who could take the job it would be one large fecking poll! Lets give it a day to see who are the most likely candidates being mentioned!

The only one for me would have to be Frank Rijkaard he's out of work at the minute and plays an exciting brand of football..if not him Hiddink but i cant see that one happening.

This is a thread dedicated to who we think the new manager will be.... there's a lot of other opinions going around in various other threads. Thought we might like to keep it in the one place.

I think the changing odds is really interesting, it's a market moved by rumour.

Capello was 6/4 earlier, he's now drifted out to 2/1.

I've had my eye on Frank DeBoer, he was at 16/1 earlier, at 8/1 now. There's a Twitter rumour going around that we are already talking to him. Apparently it's from the same Spanish source that said AVB was sacked last night.

Skybet have Capello out to 5/1, with Laudrup favourite at 3/1.

I'd be very concerned if we went for an interim 'until the end of the season' appointment. We need leadership!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,927 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

Id imagine I am totally alone on this one but I'd actually take Hoddle, at least as intern manager. I don't want Capello.

Yes if Levy is smart he already has someone lined up I mean it's coming into the busy xmas period it would be crazy to go with an interim manager until the end of season! I'd like DeBoer Rikjaard or Hiddink!

Was Hoddle sacked by Levy or did he leave for the England job?

So we can expect him to sign papers before the end of the day?

Here's the AS reports on Capello and FDB....

    http://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com/2013/12/16/5215748/tottenham-hotspur-de-boer-capello-avb-manager

    The Spanish translates as....
Tottenham already negotiating with two technicians to replace the Portuguese as his dismissal becomes official. Both, however, have jobs. One is Fabio Capello, current coach of Russia, who also directed the English team but has never coached in the Premiership. The other is Frank De Boer, who is doing a respectable job at Ajax.

Just pulled this off google, written about 10 days ago before the more recent result(s)

Hoddle guided Spurs to 41 wins, 18 draws and 45 defeats.

Villas-Boas has also masterminded 41 wins for Spurs, but the Portuguese has been in charge for just 76 matches, 15 of which have been defeats.

I think that puts an end to the Hoddle argument.

Mancini - has won the title with City & and knows the PL well?

Sacked. Hoddle is not the answer - step backwards IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,108 ✭✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

would take Mancini in a heartbeat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,473 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

Yeah but I really don't want Mancini or Capello or any other Italian manager! Can't see it being a Spanish manager after the Ramos failure, Jurgen maybe? Not sure if he would stick around with a DOF!

    Thats for the city game.

Id replace Dawson with Kaboul if fit
    Buy a proper left back
    Eriksen for Townsend
    Lamella for Defoe.

Sell Defoe and Townsend, Adebayor Naughton in Jan and buy another striker. Lavezzi from PSG would be my choice

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,943 ✭✭✭smcgiff

    Ferguson's available :)

    I'd beg Harry for forgiveness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,747 ✭✭✭Swiper the fox

Seems like a touch of deja vu for Harry, very similar to his Portsmouth situation, I'd have him back in a heartbeat.
Glenn Hoddle was my childhood hero and for that alone I wouldn't have a problem with seeing what he could do till the end of the season, it's certainly not judging like with like comparing his results with AVB's.
DeBoer would be my first choice from who I've seen mentioned, Capello and Benitez bottom of my list.

Does it really matter? Met the new boss, same as the old boss. We'll never be more that top 4 hopefuls in the current set up.

Zola has just resigned as manager of Watford

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,284 ✭✭✭DubPerryman

He resigned because Watford are doing so poorly in the Championship. Also, his win percentage with West Ham was about 28%. Hardly a CV Levy would look at twice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,108 ✭✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

    West Brom job perhaps?

    *phew*

About the same as Hoddle's during his stint then ...

Capello would be a fantastic appointment.

Anything to be said for the managerial behemoth that is Stan the Man?

    Laudrup for me.

Could people explain a bit why they want a particular manager? Those opting for Capello intrigue me. He'd a decent England team that he couldn't get to perform at the big tournamnets.

Not many England mangers can do that.

Capello would be Trapatoni style defensive crap football

Hiddink or Rijkaard for me.Both vastly experienced at top european clubs,Both are trophy winners and both are available to take over right now.
    Capello-no feckin way.Too defensive
Laudrup-Another flash in the pan.Not doing as well this season

Hiddink is a non runner. He's becoming the Netherlands manager soon.

I think we should go with someone who has PL experience. We could be 17 months down the line and still in the same boat cos 'he had't managed in the PL before' like Ramos and AVB.

For me, Mancini would top my list. Has the the PL experience and has won trophies in England.

I've a feeling any new manager will not be in place until after the world cup.

So Sherwood takes the reins until then and the team start playing well and really pushing for champions league- We all say what a great decission to part ways with AVB or no change at all, we struggle and blame the playing staff.

Seems to be a trend in the press that sherwood will be given a few games. Who knows how that will work out, was touted as a top top coach by everyone's favourite previous manager on here!
Is he close to the players? Does he have any tactical acumen?

If its going to be an interim thing, I'd give it to Hoddle and see how he does. If not great then I'd go for Laudrup.

Its a poisoned Chalice, I have no great expectations of whoever comes in.

Very Possible and i would like..

Pottechino.. even though he's only managed for 30 games or so in EPL.
He has brought Southampton up a notch, which is exactly what we need.
Laudrup .. Has brought Swansea up a notch from Rodgers and has won an english trophy and also plays our way.
De Boer .. Just because he has won the Dutch league for the last 3 seasons and before him they hadnt won it in 6. plus he knows Jan and Christian..
Hoddle.. Who doesnt like him?? really?? maybe until the season ends only.

Long Shots..Who i would like but feel its wishful thinking.

    Heykchnkes..
    Klopp.
    Rikjaard
    Hiddink.

    God NO...

    Capello
    Sherwood

    Warnock.
    Redknapp.
    Ginola.

Maybe it wont be announced until AFTER the match on sunday, if you know what i mean !!!!;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,337 ✭✭✭positivenote

i reckon its Sherwood till seasons end and then after the world cup i would cross my fingers in the hope of getting someone like Van Gaal. Hidick is penciled to replace him at the Holland helm. Not sure he'd work under the current system, but if he was shown the money he could come in and build upon his previous successes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,284 ✭✭✭DubPerryman

I'm just throwing this out there as a topic of conversation...

But....I joked about Hoddle being the next manager yesterday and how he would deploy a 5-3-2 (or 3-5-2) formation. He didn't really succeed as manager last time because he forced that formation on a squad which didn't have the players to play it. We had just bought two wingers (Etherington and Davies) and he didn't use wingers. But look at our squad now, it's top heavy on midfielders and we've all been complaining that Soldado needs a partner up front.

    Could this work??

    Lloris

    Vlad - Kaboul - Vertonghen

    Walker
    Rose

    Sandro - Dembele

    Eriksen

    Soldado - Adebayor

Lennon and Townsend would be out of the team for most of the season. Paulinho and Lamela would be competing with Eriksen for the spot behind the strikers. Though I think Lamela could compete with Ade for spot alongside Soldado. I really think Lamela will become an RVP style player for us, once given time.

We'd probably have to bring in a couple more centre backs as cover.

I'm really not interested in having Hoddle back, it will all end in tears also Sherwood doesn't have the experience to take the role fulltime. I remember a few years ago Martin O'Neill was one of the favourites to become manager of Spurs I think his wife's illness stopped him taking the role I wonder if Levy came a calling would O'Neill consider managing Spurs?

He won't be doing much as Ireland manager til Autumn next year. Would steady the ship but not top of my list. I havn't really got a list. As for Hoddle, he is prob too long out of management to be taken serious.
