Why the emotional change over type of floor

    Hi Everyone.

    I am hoping some enlightened people here may know the answer to a question I have regarding why I feel good about certain aspects of my home.

    About a year ago, I had a flood. It ruined my flooring, wrecked my walls.
    I wasn't bothered by it much. It was more the expense and time that bothered me.
    After pulling up my flooring, I was left with smooth concrete. My Apartment is warm by it's nature so I just left the concrete exposed. About 6-8 months later. Someone said my place was not very homely feeling. We agreed it was because of the concrete floor and not freshly painted walls.

    So I painted them, and I laid some flooring..
    It gives me a much more pleasant feeling now to look at the flooring and when I first arrive in the door.

    But why is this? the concrete was stable, smooth, wasnt cold. It did everything this flooring did (bar be a little more difficult to clean).
    Why does this repeating picture of fake wood make my mind more relaxed, and happy feeling? It serves no more useful purpose than the concrete.
    Is it just a conditioning I have through years of adverts?

    I was surprised at how much of a difference it made to my feelings towards my home. It does nothing useful.

    I would say that it gives you pleasure because you valued the home that you had put so much work and effort into. It was ruined by the flood, so whether it consciously 'bothered' you or not, maybe it was bothering you more than you knew. Maybe you were putting up with it every day, but you pushed that feeling away. Maybe you figured you weren't 'worth' making the extra effort for.
    Then when you put some effort and care into restoring something that had value and meaning for you, you are feeling the reward that comes with doing something that you value.
    Sometimes we have to show our minds that we value ourselves, we have to demonstrate that by our actions. And if we do that we start to feel good about ourselves. You have made a nice pleasant comfortable home for yourself, because the reality is you are worth making that effort for. And maybe your surroundings contribute more to your sense of well-being than you thought previously. Your mind is thanking you every day, that's one way to look at it.
