A town in the South of Ireland 52 degrees North and 8 degrees West.
A town in Gran Canaria 28 degrees North and 16 degrees West

Can u tell me what time will sunrise and sunset be at the same time during the year for these two locations.

Please do not ask me for the answer as I do not know but I am interested in finding out.

Is it possible that Sunrise and Sunset times for the above locations will never coincide?

At North Pole, the daylight part of the solar cycle is between 0 and 183 days long (the sun only rises once per year).

At the Arctic Circle, the daylight part of the solar cycle is between 0 and 24 hours long.

At 52 North (or south), the daylight part of the solar cycle is between 7h45 and 16h45 long.

Between the tropics, the daylight part of the solar cycle is between 10h45 and 13h15 long.

One hour on the clock is equivalent to 15 degrees of rotation of the earth.

As your two points are within 8 degrees of each other and both are in the northern hemisphere, there should be an overlap.

Say the locations are Cork and Las Palmas.

Plot a graph of the two and see where it overlaps.

By inspection, sunrise is at 0804 on 18 October for both LP and Cork.

Thanks to all, every reply was constructive. I should have said in my opening post that Gran Canaria keeps the same time as Ireland, now 12.35 here.
