I think the Tech forum on boards could deal with a lot of these questions

But with today's technology I think you need to almost completely distance yourself from society to accomplish what you strife for, and by doing that you could be very easily be labelled as the one person you said you weren't in your OP.

I did quite a bit of thinking on this subject myself for the last couple of years, because the idea is very intriguing, and its not an easy task to accomplish if you keep living as society dictates.

    Just my two cents

    Reggie Perrin re-booted.

Just move country. I suggest Uragay. Or have reconstructive surgery. A new face, and tits. Big tits.

Considering that Ireland is placed after Uruguay and just before the Bahamas (!) in the 2013 corruption index published by Transparancy International. As far as changing country to there I suppose at least Uruguay is perceived as less corrupt than here and I believe you wouldn't be any poorer off....

    In a word, no.

In a few more words. Not a bloody chance.

Highly unlikely given the data companies store, from the big corporations to ISPs. Regarding ads, I'd recommend installing adblock and ghostery, makes browsing the web a lot easier.

There's a friend of mine who's very paranoid to say the least. She's pretty much the only person I know who doesn't have an email account or facebook page. If she's booking flights she asks a friend can she use her email address for the tickets to be sent to.

Part of my envies here part doesn't. I'd like to think i could survive without online presence but i am not sure i could. Facebook/twitter, although mainly evil, provide me with up to date news and latest and greatest info.

But not just the social side of it. No email? How is she applying for jobs, keeping her network up to date and expanding etc. It might be easier to do at her age (I am presuming she is young?) but as she gets older with more experience and responsibility in work/life i am not sure it is easy (or doable) to simply not have an online presence

EDIT: Even just ordering things online, while you could set up a fake account for this (it's still an account), tracking deliveries etc. Is she willing to forego all that too?

She likes to keep her life simple I think. She writes letters to friends who live far away and the ones who live close by she just phones them to meet for coffee, cinema etc. She still has a phone obviously so she can apply for jobs no problem that way. Its not that big a deal I think to not have an online presence.

If she has a mobile phone (or a landline) then she will have to hand back her tinfoil hat+badge.

Or... does she use "burners"? (throw the phone away and get a new one each week)

Better tell her she is already on loads of watchlists for her suspicious behaviour.

Wee bit odd to avoid email but happily have a mobile phone, no?
