So are you giving to charity or are you put off by recent revelations about charity top ups.
Ive worked in rehab and and another charity where they are all top heavy management, basically a case of too many cheifs and not enough indians working.
It has put me off to see charities arent focused on what they should be..The people in need, why should they have execs going around in mercs etc and getting thier top ups.
Even a sweet shop was raided to top one exec up.It could make you mad and put you off ever donating.
But having said all that i think it is wrong to turn your back on charity, particularly animal welfare and homeless charities/penny dinners etc,as these are the charities most in need particularly at this time of the year the winter months can be so harsh on abandoned animals and people.

I gave to two charities this year - an animal charity - which i think is hugely important, and i have worked in this charity and know the owner and its quite obvious most of the money goes to the animals, she lives a frugal life and doesn believe in top ups of any sort.
I have also given to the capuchin monks, the brothers that do the penny dinners, this is for people who are homeless and those who are on the breadline stuck paying mounting bills and possibly no food on the table for christmas.
I notice with the capuchin monks there is no over emphasis on top heavy management the guys themselves lead a simple kind of lifestyle no bells and whistles.
Who will you be donating to if you donate and why?And if not then why not?

Yeah, one donation to St Francis Hospice and one to the Simon Community.

We're not sure if this thread is in the spirit of the Christmas forum so it's being locked for now.

Edit: Moved to Humanities. This might be a better home for such a discussion.

The only charity I'd ever give to is a scholarship fund to a school I believe in.

I've worked for non profits and I know what the drill is.

I prefer to do the work myself, in my own way, and on the ground.

I think 'where is my money going' is a big thing which puts a lot of people off giving to certain charities. In light of the CRC scandal, I fear it will put a lot of people off donating their cash, especially these days when so many folks are finding things hard.

I usually give a couple of bob to the SSF here every year because they are usually pretty transparent about where the money has gone and the good it has done, and I like that.
