Can't see the point of some of these SD channels broadcasting in such poor quality. The music channels as an example are horrific. YouTube streams are better on a large TV.

You can check and compare data rates here http://www.digitalbitrate.com/, some are esp poor.

Poor isn't the word. Some MTV channels are unwatchable on a big screen

the poor picture quality on music channels much of the time is more to do with prior lossy compression in the material played out for broadcast rather than the satellite data rate. Some old 1980s music videos (on Vintage TV) which were transferred from analogue video tape to digital were degraded very badly in the process (severe 'lego block' effects with high motion, this problem was of course non-existant on the original analogue recording)

For the above reasons you will notice the picture quality being a lot better during ad breaks

BTW Irish West Music TV (on Showcase channel) do play some American country music tracks from Youtube.

Oh sure that's obvious enough. VintageTV don't even get the ratio right often (stretchyvision)

The Alien 2 receiver works wonders with low quality SD channels .
Its the best receiver I have used on my 50" plasma ,it almost makes some of the low bit rate sd channels look half decent.
