Faint rattle from (possibly) the hard drive?

Hi, I just got a Toshiba L855-15u and on its first day in operation I have noticed a faint rattle/clicking from the laptop. I am assuming it is coming from the Hard Drive, which is a Hitachi hts547575A9E384.

I can hear the noise sitting at a normal distance from the laptop, although it is very faint, yet annoying. Otherwise the computer is quiet but I have never experienced a noise, no matter how slight as this before, having used many other laptops over the years.

Can anybody tell me if this is normal?

    Thanks.

It could be windows just indexing the hard drive.
This usually happens with new laptops and after it completes, the drive should return to being quiet again.
This indexing would usually happen when the laptop is idle, so it might explain why you are noticing it.

Hi Moon, thanks for the response. How long do you think indexing should go on for?

It shouldn't take any more than a day I'd reckon, depends how long the laptop is on for.

Also, I wonder could it be some background anti-virus scan going on?
Have a look in Task manager and see if anything is running that might cause it.

Toshiba I believe also have a Desktop Assistant which should offer some method of checking the Hard Drive for you.
