I rent a house and have a fireplace that is attached to the wall like this

    image.jpg

I dropped a picture down a small space down the back.

Anyone know if its a big job to remove it and how I would do it ?

Here's a wider view of type of fireplace

you would have to take the surround out, not overly big job but wee bit of patch work to do around it where the brackets would be

Yeah, the surround is probably screwed back to chimney breast with mirror brackets, probably 2 no. on each side. These may be papered over or filled so a small magnet may help reveal their position. Use a sharp blade to cut/ break the paint/ caulk seal/ decorated surface nearest the surround and gently pry away from the wall. This should help minimise damage to the paint work.

How big is the gap? is there anyway you could get a bit of card or a steel ruler covered in bits of double sided tape and see if you can fish it out.
