If I understand right you are trying to access router/modem which is bridged?
To what f1000 is connected to different router?
If yes ip address on f1000 must be different than Your network. You need to create vlan for f1000 on your router and make a routing between vlans. this will work

i have the modem/router(which is bridged) connected to a cisco asa box which is connected to a switch distributing the broadband per pc.

reset f1000. log onto it (dont change admin password when offered (its bugged and wont work) put into bridged mode. it should still allow you log in

If its in bridge mode, you need to connect to it directly and manually assign the IP address, subnet and gateway to login. Defaults will be:

    IP: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.254

No need for DNS when accessing it this way.
