New battery or fault?

My Festina which is only 5 months old is keeping terrible time the last few weeks. This would be why:

I took it to a jewellers today to have the battery changed and he wouldn't do it as the warranty would be voided with the manufacturer/retailer; strange one I thought.

What do you think, does the behaviour indicate a low battery or a potential fault? It came from atomic-clock.org.uk.

    Thanks. :)

Seems more likely to be a fault, however if the watch is still under warranty it is probably better to get it sent off for a warranty repair even if it is just the battery that needs replacing.

That to me is more likely to be a fault. Low battery in a quartz/low charge in a solar powered quartz typically manifests itself by the second hand ticking once every two seconds, but still keeping proper time, before just stopping dead.

Even if it were a battery issue, except if the watch was very 'NOS', that shouldn't be so after only five months of ownership so that it would still count as a fault.
