hi this might sound stupid but do ye feed silage and meal at regular times to stock and if so morn or evening

for me it could be any time during the day getting fed but mostly try to do it after milking and breakfast

this might sound stupid too but if I only feeding meal once a day it is in the evening. The thinking is that they can eat the silage adlib during the day and will then take the meal in the evening whereas if they eat meal in morning it would fill them and therefore take in less silage during the day. Also the meal in the evening should put on more weight as they will be lying after. No scientific basis to this.

Use a diet feeder here so what I do is make a dry cow mix first fire that out in the morning, and then make up the milkers mix and I put that out when the cows are gone to the parlour in the evening. The theory being that they'll have feed within reach till morning and then I push in what they've shoved out of the way after morning milking. Will have to make 3 mixes every second day and 2 the other day soon enough as the wagon won't hold enough for 24 hrs for the milkers and I might put the maiden heifers on the milkers diet during breeding.

Feed meal in evening, same as if they're at grass. More likely then to lie down and chew the cud overnight, extra protein should keep them warm.

As lib silage all day and feed meal in the evening. Usually because we're working so it could be anything from 8pm to midnight when it happens.

Most days stock are only seen at the evening feeding, not great but that's the way it happens.
