I was trying to get photos of garden birds today and spotted this Goldfinch. Is it a disease or did it get splashed with oil or something?

I don't agree. I think it looks more like it had it's head in something it shouldn't have. The specks look a bit like mite damage but it could just be seed debris stuck to the area.

I have checked all my photos there now. I have been out with the camera about 5 different days since the 4th of December.

Looks like one photo from the 6th has front feathers slightly wet looking.

There was a bigger number of Goldfinches around today and I saw this extra big Goldfinch to day aswell.

He is the same size as the other but has his feathers fluffed out. This can be for several reasons including it being cold, feeling unwell, or recently washed. If unwell it is not necessarily anything serious.
Keep an eye on the flock offer the coming days for any other signs of illness but chances are they will be fine.
