Games for Window Live

Arrgghh this is driving me mental. I know the Windows Live service closed and that some solution was in the works but tonight I tried two games which have been in my account a long time but which I never got around to playing.

First up was Dirt 2- it wouldn't even load up as it wanted me to log into a service that is no longer running.

Second was Dirt 3 which loads up but nothing can be saved because of GFWL.

I also seem to remember a while back that the first Batman game required you to log into GFWL. With this service no longer running what's the situation. I have a crap load of games I'm slowly getting through and I'm sitting her wondering what I might actually be able to play.

The batman games are or will be patched so that they don't need it. Other games will require the developer to patch them.

Which probably won't happen in some cases.

Stupid system should have been shut down years ago.

That's incredibly annoying. Dirt 3 for example is a relatively new game. I know some developers either have patched or plan to patch games but it seems Codemasters are particularly lazy.

So is it possible that a whole swathe of games in ones library will be simply unplayable?

I thought you can create an offline profile in order to play & save games without using the service?

Yeah that's how I remember it too. But I am not sure if you can even create the profile anymore now that GWFL is gone. I think this is one of those situations where you can really justify torrenting a cracked version. You've paid for a game that doesn't work but the cracked version works flawlessly.

The option to 'create a local profile' should still be there, if the service is running or not. It's hidden away a bit, but definitely should be there

Is it single player/saving you mean? As with all these games, you can create an offline account

If it's multiplayer you want, isn't that handed via the Rockstar club thingy?

Nope, game won't start. Missing a .dll file associated with GFWL! It's getting a Steam workaround soon though

You need to reinstall the actual GFWL client if it says you're missing the .dll file. It's been a while, but that happened me a few times back in the day. A reinstall should repair the .dll.

I just installed 8.1 the other day after I got my new SSD and it was a fresh isntall of GFWL, but I'll toss the one I have and give it a lash. I'm neck deep in Skyrim at the minute, so no rush!

The Batman games (Arkham Asylum, etc.) were patched recently to remove GFWL - other developers seem to be slower...

I'm curious about this.

I've had Resident Evil 5 on my wishlist for some time now, I loved it on my (now sold) consoles and I'd like to re-live the magic in the glory of P.C.

It was 75% off, €4.99, and I was about to pull the trigger when I read that GFWL would be shut down meaning I couldn't play it on line in a few months.

Will it be playable on Steam servers when GFWL is finished?

Xliveless worked well for me with GTA IV. Be aware some mods don't work well when its installed.

Hmm just saw that Dirt 3 is in the sale. Why on earth would they promote it when the thing can't be played properly?

i think I lost all my GTAIV and GTA:TfLC saves. Tried play em both over christmas for the first time in ages and they were both back at the start, must investigate further.
