This has been mooted twice before when Australia held the Webb Ellis by the NRL (National Rugby League) because RL is such a great code Australia won the WLWC something like 7 times in a row  and now 10 times in total.

The ARU wanted full contested Scrums (instead of Leagues "chicken scratch") and Lineouts but were willing to concede Rucks and Mauls and a few other things as well like Flankers to appease the 13 man code, the NRL wanted..... Well... the Wallabies to play...Rugby League
This latest attempt sounds just as dangerous to be honest, the pressures involved in a full contested Scrum will be to much for blokes who just lean up against each other but at least they are going to play half a game with each code

Still a stupid idea, surprised the NRL ain't there somewhere still trying to prove how good they are ;)

I recall Bath and Wigan having a similar challenge in the 90's, only it was one test in each code. The end results were than Wigan were better than Bath at League and Bath were better than Wigan at Union

Truth be told wigan were waaaaaaay better than bath at league while Bath were only marginally better at union than wigan....Wigan 82 Bath 6 vs Bath 44 Wigan 19. :D. As a league lover I cannot begin to tell you how much I hate this idea...gimmicky gob****ery of the first order...

I remember it well. Jeremy Guscott point blank refused to have anything to do with it.

Then Wigan got an invitation to play the sevens thst year and tore everybody apart.
It proved only one thing, that the fitness levels between the professionals and the just turned professionals was huge.

The scores were something like that, yeah. The only weight I'd give that game, asides from the fitness issue is that more League players would have had Union experience than the other way around so they would have had that going for them. Other than that it was as useful as lesbian cock :)
