Nissan 2.2 DCI and turbo problems.

I have heard that this engine (2.2 DCI, xtrail) is very prone to premature turbo failure. Is this true? Someone recently advised me to replace the seamed intercooler with a welded unit as the seamed factory unit leaks and this in turn causes the turbo to overboost, killing the bearings in the long run.
Does anyone have experience with these engines. Is there anything else I should look out for?
