Hi, I'm thinking of getting a Nespresso machine for my bf of 1 year. It is around 150 EUROS and I think he would like it. Do you think it is a good pressie idea or is it a bit lame? Thanks!

not into those at all and they are costly, capsules etc, i like my coffee but part of the enjoyment is drinking it in a cafe. for at home, get him a cafetiere/french press and some decent coffee to make.

Think they are overrated myself. If you are looking at types like that nip in to Argo asap and pick up one of the Senso machines, bargin at €33.49 now down from €79 me thinks for the double one. Instead of capsules you use these things that look like tea bags but they are not as pricey as the nespreso and they have a lvoerly taste. Other than that I would get one of machines that use the ground coffee get them cheaper again

It's a bit 'domesticating'...? Better than saucepans, but sends a similar message.

For convenience sake, they are the bees knees. Little or no cleaning. The coffee is only ok though.

If he likes cappuccinos or lattes, the milk foam attachment is a great addition.

As Max Powers suggested, a good cafetière (multi cup and/or single cup) and some nice coffee would be a great present. I'd recommend some illy coffee - ground.
How about a grinder to go with it. Something along the lines of this one. Nothing like the satisfaction of grinding your own beans :D
You can get illy as whole bean. I know Tesco's and Superquinn stock illy coffee. You can buy it online as well from Amazon.

If you wanted to beef up the present a little more, a set of nice espresso cups or cappuccino/latte glasses as well.

    Just some suggestions.

Edit: Get him a pipe while you're at it :p

anyone I know who uses them loves them.

    with regards claims its expensive.
its about 30c a capsule, granted more expensive that beans. however its good coffee, and about 2.50 cheaper than a cup of coffee from a coffee shop.
my misses uses it the whole time and saves money from buying 2 or so ups from a coffee shop a day.

there's also very little maintenance and cleaning compared to a using beans etc.

I don't drink coffee myself but she is very fussy and says the coffee is very good from it.

We are getting one for my dad this year and i always thought they were a bit naff and a money making racket. However when we went to my aunts house during the year they had just purchased a new one and he was completely obsessed with it and kept looking at it and tasting the coffee etc. That is what convinced us and the refills aren't that dear work out around 36c per pod. THey give out free coffee in brown thomas if you want to go in and have a look at it.

I've seen a few different nespresso machines myself either in friend's or family's house and we have one at work too.

He likes his coffee but he wouldn't be bothered grounding his own beans or making one from a french caffetiere. I sometimes make one for him and I think he likes it just cuz he feels like being treated :P

I thought about getting one around the range of 139-169 EUR either online or in Arnotts (as I have no car, can't go to kildare village or anything like that). He does like his americanos so I suppose he could give it a use. We did have a look around the shop in kildare village a few months ago and he was quite keen but didnt get one cuz it was too pricey.

I think I can get him a reasonable machine around 140 EUR and a couple boxes of capsules. What do you think?

Ps> I'm trying to get him to quit smoking so no to the pipe :)

If you don't mind getting it delivered. Amazon.co.uk was the cheapest place I found to get a machine. I've helped a few people this year get a machine. We get the caps delivered from Nespresso.com but they are the same price in Arnotts and BT.

Btw, there is bargain thread for Nespresso on the Bargain Alerts forum.
