It seems the Indo editors just cannot get that phrase out of their heads. They use this instead of the persons name (Yes he is a person, not a label!)

The media repeat this phrase constantly, not always bothering the "alleged" or "described as" safety words.

Is it just me, or is this man being hung out to dry by the Irish media? Already tried and convicted by the say so of the FBI?

Just once I'd like to see something like "Irish national being extradited to the US described as the "most unjust judicial system on the planet"."

You can argue that that description of the US is unfair, well I can reply that it's no more unfair than the Indo's treatment of Eric Eoin Marques.

"Eric Eoin Marques (28), who previously denied he is the owner and administrator of an anonymous hosting site known as Freedom Hosting, offered to plead guilty to several counts relating to images on over 100 anonymous websites described as being extremely violent, graphic and depicting the rape and torture of pre-pubescent children"

debatable given he's about to plead guilty to the above.

Safety Words - interesting choice of expression

    Just You in my opinion.

I'm going to ignore the rest of the comment as I think it's bo11ox anyway. I have a deep mistrust of "first time" posters, taking an extreme stance - its either to enflame or support.

Either way, as a regular contributor here and for the sake of my own inner calmness and a potential banning (!) - I won't contribute to this topic any further, regardless of what's said.

I don't agree that newspapers ought to remain entirely balanced. I do agree, however, that it was a sensationalist headline unbefitting of a broadsheet.

Eric Eoin Marques (28), who previously denied he is the owner and administrator of an anonymous hosting site known as Freedom Hosting, offered to plead guilty to several counts relating to images on over 100 anonymous websites described as being extremely violent, graphic and depicting the rape and torture of pre-pubescent children.
Last month Mr Marques indicated in a letter to the DPP that he would plead guilty, in Ireland, to charges relating to conspiring to distribute and advertise child pornography, as well as advertising and distributing child pornography. But yesterday the DPP Claire Loftus said that she would not bring proceedings against him in Ireland.
Now the US faces a battle to extradite him because of its harsh sentencing.
Mr Marques faced a maximum 14-year term in Ireland, a term that would have been significantly reduced by an early guilty plea and the fact that he has no prior criminal record."

Don't get this, why wouldn't the DPP prosecute someone who is prepared to admit guilt to selling child porn?

I asked the same question on another forum. One of the posters suggested that it might be so as to facilitate quicker extradition.
