Televes Diginova aerial

    Hi all

Looking for some advice, putting an aerial in a new house. It has good reception of DTT from Spur Hill but patchy/no DAB coverage.

I got a Televes Diginova aerial from Dwyers - this one: Televes Diginova - at the weekend but haven't installed it yet. Just wondered if this is any good or whether I should just go for some sort of Colour King or other aerial.

Any advice would be well received!

    Cheers

    Paul

If you wanted to receive DAB/FM radio with it, you would need to position it vertically (far tips of aerial going up and down), but the TV transmitter you are receiving is horizontal polarised (as with most main TV transmitters in this country), for that you would instead position it horizontal (flat) instead.

This type of combined aerial would only make any sense for dual radio and TV use if the wanted TV transmission was vertically polarised (the same as DAB, and FM here which is generally vertical only (not mixed Horiz and Vert like most FM in the UK)

If you were desperate to try get DAB, you would have much greater chance with the common VHF Band 3 LP7 aerial (many - now disused - still on rooftops) than this aerial.

This thing might have justification for mobile use (caravan, motor home) but for a fixed home installation go with a regular TV aerial

Ive used a couple of them and diplexed the signal out at the end for Fm radio and had no problems, very powerful aerial with or without a power supply.

Meaningless statement. Aerials don't have power, they have gain. This one does not have much gain, if any. All the gain is in the amplifier which will also add noise.

Much better to get a normal aerial which does have genuine gain. Greener as well as you don't need electricity to power it.

You can either use this aerial with or without a power supply, it has a built in Masthead already in place. It has a higher gain that most conventional aerials. It worked perfectly for me for a house covered in trees where a long based periodic aerial failed....gives approx 10db

With the amplifier powered off, the UHF section has a gain of 4 - 7 dBi: that's only 1.85 - 4.85 dB relative to a dipole alone (dBd).

Gain for VHF is given as -2 dBi (yes, minus 2). Amplifier gain seems to be 12 dB.

YOu may have been in a situation where a signal reflection gave a stronger signal than the direct path and the less directional aerial picked it up off-beam! The other aerial may well have worked if pointed it in a direction that had a strong reflection (such as from a large metal surface - nearby warehouse etc).

I tried 5 different makes of aerial all failed, tried a televes aerial worked flawlessly no problems since and it was over a yr ago
