Has anybody here taken C1+E lessons (Truck and Trailer) and test?
Is there a school of motoring who suppy a C1+E combination for lessons and the test?

I know most people go for the C+E Artic test, but I was wondering if C1+E
    is available through any school?

There is some schools down around Athlone/Longford that have truck & drags, To be honest you would be better off just doing the C&E test if your looking for work as there is not many truck & drags on the road.

Most truck and drag combinations on the roads would be C+E as they would be over 12 tonnes (C1+E)

do the C+E AFAIK the cost is the same and it covers you up to 44 tonnes,or 46 whenever that law changes

    Thanks for the replies.

I located a school which covers Athlone and uses a Scania rigid
    plus trailer for C+E lessons/test -

Does anybody here have experience of driving a rigid/trailer combo
    versus an artic?

Their isn't that much difference. I find reversing is a little trickier, but all depends on the combination really.

Reversing depends on what kind of trailer used if its an A frame it can be a bitch if it is a normal drag not to bad,Also hitching up is a pain in the hole:p

The Scania/Trailer combo in use in Athlone appears not to be the A-frame type (wheels are in the centre of the trailer).
Do you have experience of this type of trailer?

I'm not looking for work/artic work atm....I just want to pass the EC test in order to get EB and EC1 on my licence (possible future vehicle recovery work).

If it is just a normal drag then it is easy enough to drive,I take it you all ready have a C licence.

Yes, I passed my C test in 2003 (after 10 hours tuition - no previous truck experience). I havent driven any truck since then (except for two recent artic lessons).

What I'm wondering is - would it be easier to learn/get used to a rigid/trailer combo as opposed to an artic?

I found it difficult to get used to the short 'line' an artic follows ...and reversing an artic...

I have my licence since the 90s and would choose an artic over a drag & drag so much easier to reverse and maneuver around, Especially if you haven't drove a truck in a while.

doing artic lessons atm and its definately easier than the rigid and trailer, reversing is a nightmare in an artic on the "blind" side but its all about practice
