Rugby Loan System

With the World Cup getting closer I was thinking about squad competitiveness and how we could do with a few more lads playing week in week out in the run up to the tournament. I can understand younger guys wanting to stay with teams to try and make the breakthrough but surely we could utilise a season long loan system between the provinces (even just for next season). That way you could have upwards of 80 irish qualified guys playing regular Heineken Cup rugby for a whole season and Joe Schmidt and co with a serious selection headache. I know transfers between teams are more commonplace but I can't really see any downside to trialing this. Any thoughts?

Aviva Prem teams and Top 14 teams all have kind of "Alliances" with championship and D2 teams respectively where they loan out their academies for gametime. A similar thing would be cool in rugby, but I guess the provinces feel their players are pretty much getting it from the AIL

if i remember right Jackman said he tried to loan some lads but the provinces rather keep them in house..

    some theortical ones:

Dominic Ryan to Connacht or Ulster.
Ian Nagle to Connacht or Leinster.
Dave Foley to Connacht or Leinster.

Luke Fitzgerald and Fergus McFadden could be options at 13 for Ireland so a season with both of them playing there would be beneficial. Perhaps a season at Munster would suit one of them. I know Earls wants to be a 13 but he's at his best utilised on the wing. You have Cave at Ulster and Payne will be Irish qualified by then so they hardly need another option. Connacht would suit either Fitzgerald or McFadden for a season either. Dominic Ryan needs more time at an Irish province and Connacht for a year could be the break he needs.

with BOD retiring I think we will see plenty of Luke at 13.

I think McFadden's days as a centre are done..

Rumors of Eoin Griffen to Munster fills that spot for them imo.

Yeah it's been a while since he was considered a centre I suppose. All the same it'd be a handy option when you take into account he's not a bad place kicker.

Obviously he can still play there but he seems fairly content on the wing

Either Cooney or luke Mcgrath to munster while Murrays injured and possibly one to Connacht to push Marmion

I really like the idea of the provinces cooperating like this.

Though with meritocratic qualification coming into the Heino, it could create an interesting situation for a player who helps to get his loan club into the tournament, at the expense of his parent club, knowing he is to go back to his parent club the following season.
