Hey there im looking for the correct engine oil spec for a 05 tdi 140bhp A4 on fixed service interval. Ive been looking at the various oil manufacturers websites oil guides and they seem to give conflicting opinions on the correct grade.

    Hi
The oil you need for your car should meet the following specification:
VW 504.00 / 507.00. This is the optimum recommended oil spec, and this should be printed on the label regardless of which brand of oil you choose to buy. It is a fully synthetic 5W-30 oil.

    "VW 504.00"?
    I might be wrong, but
    Maybe 505.00 or 505.01?

505.01 would be an older spec oil.
While it might do the job there's little or no real difference in price so id be going for the better spec 504/507.00

For the passat 2.0 PD tdi vw recommend 505 01 for vehicles without a dpf and 50700 with a DPF regardless of fixed or variable interval.

Personally I would get a cheap 5w30 507.00 spec and change every year/10k miles. I use quantum longlife III which you get from VW main dealers(40euro for 5l) or you can pick it up for about 35 euro online.

Funny how it's the same oil regardless of the fixed or variable interval

Ah cool, I thought 504.00 was for petrol only.
Bit of a minefield, this oil spec business.

    It is ;)

500 - 504 are the petrol specs and 505 - 507 are the diesel ones.
