Throat Problems From Cycling?

I've got a 9km commute to work (each way), takes me about 40 minutes. During the summer I was riding into work five days per week....no problems at all.

Once it turned cold though, I started having problems with that stupid thing that hangs down in the back of your throat (uvula). It swells up. If I stop riding, it goes back to normal in a week or two. If I ride all week, and it is cold enough, it gets so bad it touches my tongue.

I've searched online but I couldn't find anyone talking about this. I was hoping to find people who had this problem and what they did to get over it? I tried things like 'keeping my mouth closed' or 'chewing gum' but no help there.

You need to talk to a doctor about a solution.

I run all year round, but winter running causes my sinuses to go nuts, blood, mucous, not pleasant. Tonight I ran on a treadmill and sinuses feel fine. It's a cold air issue. Cold air can also trigger me into asmathic type wheezing.

There must be something you can do. It must happen to loads of people.

I had similar issues but not as serious.

Have you tried wearing a snood and covering your face completely? I have asimilar commute and i find that has really helped.

Cover up with a buff to prevent wind chill.

Go to a doctor - site rules do not permit requests for or advice on medical matters
