Thinking about buying a diagnostic cable and getting some software for the cars.
What kind of usb cable do I need for a 2000 ford fiest and a 2003 ford fiesta?
also which software is should I get?

I hear the cables are pretty cheap and I can get the software via my own means.

While I'm at it, what do I need for a 2008 mazda 6?

I take it your looking at the cheap end if the market ?

Ford are a pain at the best of times , even the modern ones with better computers ,

I'd recommend an all rounder like Delphi/autocom for diagnostics but a code reader might be better for what you need.

You might just be better going to independent diagnostics specialist.

    Might be a lot cheaper

You can read any Ford/Mazda that has a diagnostic port with FORScan and an ELM327. Total cost - ~€9. Diag on the Fiesta is in the passenger footwell. It should have no bother reading the 6 either.

Just adding to this, the port on the Fiesta is behind a little plastic panel at the base of the A pillar. Use a plastic tool and pop it out. There are no screws.

On the '03 it may be behind a pop-out panel on the driver's side, above the pedals, depending on if it's a mk4 or mk5. The '00 is a mk4, so as you said it's on the A pillar.
