Just getting in here before mrs browns boys is mentioned as least favourite..

Don't really have a least favourite myself, Black Books is an easy favourite though.

Least favourite takes me here > http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057100420

Favourite would be anything along the lines of 'The Fast Show', Father ted, Fawlty Towers, Spike Milligan, Dave Allen, Peter Sellers, and anything with Leonard Rossiter in it + many more.

The Thick of It is priceless, some of the insults in it are hilarious and Malcolm Tucker is one of the funniest characters in decade.

Amen to Mrs. Brown's Boys beinf the worst. Was never a fan of Mr. Bean, although I appreciate the acting and can see why people like it.

Fawlty Towers again as a favourite, along with malcolm In the Middle.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Another huge vote for The Thick of IT. Malcolm Tucker is a scary and hilarious character, and the writing is very sharp.

In fact pretty much anything Armando Iannucci has gotten involved in tends to be fantastic.

Really enjoy Parks and Recreation once you struggle through the first season. Some of the physical comedy in the Inbetweeners is inspired.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,793 ✭✭✭Red Kev

Fave : Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Father Ted (in that order)

Worst : Funny Friday followed by Mrs Browns Boys.

Funny Friday is essentially a circle jerk by Joe Duffy and his mates, most who can't get a gig from one end of the year to the next, almost all of whom coincidentally have the same manager, the same guy who manages a huge amount of RTE's stars, and all paid for by the taxpayer and TV licence payers. Fcuking Bullcarp of the highest order.

Heresy: my least favourite is Fawlty Towers.

My favourite: The Day Today/Brass Eye.

    Honourable mention for Soupy Norman.

By era, The Goon Show, Rising Damp, Cheers and The Early Years of the 21st Century.....you couldn't make them up!

    fav: The Big Bang Theory.
(Simon's Cat on youtube :pac: )

Worst: Father Ted or those two 'twin' puppets or maybe south park.
(Ok, no definitely, those puppet twins.)

favourite current one is Eastbound and Down,it's a HBO show-very,very funny.love Fraiser and Outnumbered aswell. Can't stand Faulty Towers or Big Bang Theory. I have always loved Father Ted but it's ageing badly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,821 ✭✭✭fussyonion

Faves: The Royle Family, Early Doors, Benidorm, Curb your Enthusiasm, The Ricky Gervais Show, ANYTHING with Alan Partridge, The Big Bang Theory.

Least Faves: Mrs Brown's Boys (corny and predictable), that BBC1 comedy with Jason Byrne as a hapless Dad with Pauline McLynn as his mother.
Also hate Not Going Out and Drifters.

Favourite show at the moment is Louie.Big fan of Eastbound and Down, first series of I'm Alan Partridge,It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as well as most things involving Graham Linehan like Father Ted,Big Train,Black Books and the IT Crowd etc.Oh and TMWRNJ too!

Least favourites would be the god awful Big Bang Theory, and all those other interchangeable shows that are constantly on E4.Though I do sometimes watch 2 Broke Girls on mute because the the two of them are quite hot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 190 ✭✭lucky333

    Fav movie,,, hall pass....
Movie I hate the most, that monkey film with Bruce willis- weird fcuked up film

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,009 ✭✭✭Tangatagamadda Chaddabinga Bonga Bungo

Favourite: Louie. I've loved his stand-up since I came across it a few years ago and when I found out he wrote, directed and starred in his own show I got hard. I think, the show is 10 out of 10. There's the added bonus (for me) that he's a single dad just trying to get by and do his best given the circumstances.

Least favourite: M*A*S*H. Maybe it's because I'm so dementedly anti-war and I hate anything that tries to normalise it but also because (I think) it was on before The Simpsons for years when I was younger and I had to endure it until I could see Homer do his thing.

2 broke girls is horrific but I'd do a j1 in Kat Denning's knickers!

Fr Ted & Blackadder, esp the WW1 one are faves. The Inbetweeners is a new one I like 'cos that was me 25 years ago! Obviously though, Only Fools & Horses is the best overall, in my book.

Favourite: Probably Arrested Development. First two seasons were pretty much perfect. Season Three was a dip in quality but still very good. Season Four was a brave attempt but sadly just didn't work.

Honourable mentions: I loved the first four seasons of Friends but it went to shít during Season Five and never recovered, despite sporadic moments of greatness.
Black Book and Flight of the Conchords deserve a mention too as both were consistently funny during their (admittedly short) runs.

Least favourtie: Had the misfortune of seeing an episode of Two Broke Girls and an episode of Rules of Engagement. Fifty minutes of my life I'll never get back. Woeful stuff altogether.
Also anything involving Lee Evans. He is an antonym for funny.

Only Fools and Father Ted are tied for me, I guess Only Fools is only fair because it has more episodes to justify it, yet Father Ted is more conversational quotable!

Other tops- Peep Show, First 10 odd years of Simpsons (although upon re watching the first two series are pretty average, it took a few years to get as sharp and satirical as it did around 93 or 94)

Worst- All of the current crop of US sitcoms. Big Bang, How I Met, Two and a Half Men. Family Guy has its moments, but it is generally atrocious, American Dad is much better written.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 580 ✭✭✭JumpShivers

Favourite; The Inbetweeners, some Family Guy, Father Ted, The Big Bang Theory.

I'm not one of those people who'll split their sides laughing for minutes though. :P

    Generally don't watch TV.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,075 ✭✭✭Wattle

Faves: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Peep Show, I'm Alan Partridge, Fall & Rise Of Reginald Perrin.

Dislikes: American comedies with a laugh track*

*With the honorable exceptions of Seinfeld and Frasier.

Frasier's my favourite. I like Cheers too.

Generally things like How I met... Rules of engagement etc I don't find funny.

Reno 911 is a pretty funny series, some South Park can be very funny too.

    Never found Frasier funny.

The early only fools and horses

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭AgileMyth

I enjoyed Friends when it came out, although I was a child at the time. Watched an episode recently and it really is awful, not a single laugh in it.

Theres a lot of bad american comedies recently. Big bang theory and 2 and a half men are both awful but have done very well.

Cheers and Frasier are the best of American comedy. Fawlty Towers and Father Ted probably the best from this side. I may be biased about Father Ted though, coming from the west of Ireland.

Monty Python made two of the finest movies of all time. I don't just mean comedy movies either.

Since its Christmas I'll give Home Alone a mention. Fantastically well put together.

Totally forgot The Simpsons too.. For a few series it was pure genius. Pity they kept making it.

Favourite is definitely Frasier...clever, witty and original.

Except when depicting British people. Daphne and her family are embarrassing.

Other than that, great show. Love Niles and Roz.

Has to be Frasier. Not such a fan of the last series or 2 but it was a fantastic show. David Hyde Pierce made it for me. A really great actor.

Honourable mentions go to Inbetweeners, Father Ted, Blackadder, Only Fools and Fawlty Towers.

Indeed, but when people say how smart it is, I mostly agree, but cannot believe how badly they went wrong with Daphne's AWFUL family. Like something out of Oliver Twist. I can't watch any episode in which they feature.

Niles is such a great character.

    My faves?

    Well I'm a classic Simpsons whore, it's my No.1 I'm talking seasons 2-8 with a few from season 9.

    Others:
    Black Books
    Father Ted
    Blackadder
    South Park
Early Friends (seasons 1-5ish) - don't care how "uncool" this makes me
    Arrested Development
    Peep Show
    The Inbetweeners
    Eastbound and Down
    Spaced

There's more that I can't think of now.

never liked Father Ted so thats my least favourite, followed by the IT crowd and the terrible Big Bang

Least favourite would be Two Pints of Lager and A packet of crisps, utter sh1te!!

Could be that a lot of the shows subtext was lost on your younger self.

M*A*S*H was decidedly anti-war & anti-authority in tone, with the more hawkish characters often being the butt of the jokes for their unthinking jingoism. All the while, an endless stream of young men damaged physically and mentally by battle were sensitively portrayed, in a manner which left the viewer in little doubt as to just how futile the whole endeavour appeared to many of the medics serving in the field.
