Is my old guitar still worth playing?

I own a cheaper Fender electric I bought for 300 euro (with amp) 8 years ago. I haven't played it in years. I would like to get back to playing guitar and was wondering if my old guitar is a good place to get back into playing or should I get a new one. My old one needs new strings. Is there such a thing as a guitar 'service' that I could get my old one back in shape? Is there point in paying for that?

Of course. Go to your local guitar/music shop and ask them to change strings for you, they should only charge a few extra quid.

I've heard they can do other things to it. Care to guess what that would be? Tighten things?

What you want is called a 'setup'. They can vary in price depending on what you need done to your guitar.

Some of the things that might be worked on include neck relief, intonation and nut filing. It's a good idea to learn at least some of the more basic tasks like setting intonation and restringing but for the others you might expect that have to have your guitar serviced every couple of years as a rough guide.

The music shop in Swords, I believe, is doing them for €15ish at the moment.

Great. That's what I'm looking for.
