For mpg its got to be the avensis. But if I had to spend my working day in one, itd be the Accord hands down.

Both old and new shape Accord were sold in 2008, both would be a notch up in drive and comfort over a similar Avensis but would not be as frugal on juice as the Avensis. New shape Avensis appeared in 2009 and would be a lot better than the older model.

I'd still sacrifice a few mpg for the extra comfort of the Accord. Just make sure that the Accord meets the taxi requirements as I have yet to see a new shape Accord being used as a taxi.

Repairs on the 09+ avensis are very dear.

What mpg would you expect out of the accord?

And they can be used as taxi theres a few down in cork

I cannot imagine an Accord being any cheaper than an Avensis to repair.

I'd double check that first, the 2008 onwards Accord Tourer fails to satisfy the requirements though interestingly the saloon appears to:)

Since 31st January 2013 all vehicles (at Change of Vehicle) are required to have clear windows: most privacy glass will not meet this condition

I saw a 2010 Accord taxi in Dublin on Saturday night so they can certainly be used. Interesting that the Tourer doesn't meet the requirements though.

As already mentioned the Accord isn't great on diesel. However it is a very nice car unlike the Toyota, so if I was spending my working week in one or the other it would have to be the Accord.
