Collector looking for Garda Uniform Belt

I'm a collector of police and army uniform items from around the world. I am looking for a genuine issue leather belt worn by An Garda Siochanna before the uniform changed a couple of years back, so its the ex issue belt I am after not the newer thinner one with the garda crest. The belt is black leather with a square silver buckle. As a collector I would be happy to pay a good price. Hope to hear from you guys soon. Cheers.

Not a hope. Rare as hens teeth. Not issued, but private purchase. Were made to order using an old mould which no longer exists, based on the older DMA belt, modified with a Garda crest instead of the DMP one..

    Nice try though.

I was hoping I would be able to maybe locate an old one from a member who would be willing to part with it as its ex issue. Where the belts made in Ireland or sourced abroad?

Made in Ireland, I believe by a Dublin based Garda. They couldn't be got in 1994, so any you saw after then were passed down as family or unit heirlooms.

Hi don't know if we are talking about the same belt. I think you may be referring to the very old belt with correct me if I'm wrong but like a hook attachment on the buckle. The one I would be looking for would have been worn up to maybe 2005/6 . It was just the standard issue uniform belt up until then. I think some gardai may still wear it! I'm pretty sure there would be a large number of these belts still around!

The uniform issue belt in 1994 was black with a silver normal buckle. No crest. Have you a photo of what you are talking about?

There should be a fair few of them about!

I don't have a photo but the one you mention is the one I am after. It's a black leather belt with a standard silver buckle and no crest

Seriously? I have one of them. It's well worn and doesn't fit any more for some reason :) Leather belt loop was attached to the buckle with another leather strap.

    Hi Mr.Viking,

I'm not quite sure to be honest.... have you check the sales section?.

    Now, I will continue:
Mr. I know you're undercover, and I want to say that your wasting your time because the knight defender guy was a joke, and I'm only making this post to let you know and the team or whatever that it would be a complete waste of time because from me it was a joke, and like you could be out looking for whatever man.

    soooo goodluck man...
    peace m8,

by the way, the irish knight defender guy has stopped posting the joke/trolle threads. so yeah.

Not quite correct. The belt you're referring to Goldie was a mould of an original AGS belt. It was on issue up to 1948 to members serving in the DMR or Cork city along with the old "bell" type helmets. They are exactly like the DMP (not DMA) buckles but with AGS on it. I have two originals and one copy. The copies are just as rare as the originals.

I managed to pick up an original AGS belt some years ago from another auction house (not the one on your link) along with the bell type helmet. Paid through the nose for both of them but excellent pieces to have!

To be fair, it's a whole other type of walt who begins collecting unidentifiable bits of uniform. Wonder what they were after next. The Old Blackthorn shoes that the canteen shop in the depot sold? The waterproof cape and pull ups?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 414 ✭✭Bosh

    Oh Jaysis, the plastic cape!

    What's worse, I remember wearing it :(:o

All he's missing now is the black rubber torch.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,195 ✭✭✭goldie fish

I could never figure out what the pull ups were supposed to attach to
