My father is looking to upgrade his desktop. The one he has is almost ten years old and is painfully slow. So he's decided to bite the bullet and get a new desktop.

I was just wondering would I be able to build a better one myself. He needs an OS but doesn't mind if its windows 7 or 8. It will be almost exclusively used for surfing the web and a small but of flash gaming. He also uses it to upload some documents to a website for his own business.

You could get a decent build for under 300 tbh.

You can pick up a Windows licence for under 50 quid. The CPU is surprisingly fast and has a good iGPU in it too for accelerated flash games (and even some other games). TBH the PSU that comes with it will be just fine for the system, you could probably get a smaller PSU if needs be.

The PC World one is actually not bad for 349 considering that includes a valid copy of Win8, as well as a keyboard and mouse etc, and a walk-in shop warranty. I'd probably be inclined to go for that for those reasons, the CPU is better in the PC World machine as well. One thing though is that you could add an SSD to the build option for the same price, which would make a massive difference in boot times and desktop use.
