With all the quality boxing lined up tonight I think it is worth a thread of its own to keep things tidy.

Yea he is. Reckon it will clash with Barker/Sturm

This Smith fight will be over in the next round anyway.

And it's over. Hope they keep flying through these fights so Ormond won't clash with Barker.

Great night of boxing, some real 50/50's aswell.
Hopefully Ormond vs Matthews and Barker vs Sturm don't clash as they could be the pick of the nights action.

Yeh, Froch, it's a real pickem between GGG and the likes of Barker and Geale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Barker - Sturm ring walks are on now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Very good first round from Sturm.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,001 ✭✭✭Big Ears

Great start from Sturm, Barker landing plenty in return but he's fighting the wrong fight imo, needs to use his skill and ability more and keep the distance.

Sickened I didn't get on the 5/4 pre fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,711 ✭✭✭Joeseph Balls

Well thats my accumie gone on the first fight. barker points they said, be grand they said......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,285 ✭✭✭Frankie Lee

Andy Lee would have a good chance against Sturm I reckon. Barker was lucky to get the opportunity to take Geale's world title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Hmmmm, I lost a nice bit on that, I had all the distance options covered. Sturm was impressive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,354 ✭✭✭nocoverart

German women are so hot!!! anyways, yeah Barker was sh!te.

    Dislocated hip.....

People questioned whether Barker would have the hunger after winning a title, but if anything he wanted it too much, too fired up and ended up fighting with his heart rather than his head and suffering the consequences.

If Barker has hurt is hip he may need some time out (retirement may even be a potential option), but even if he doesn't I'm not sure they'll enact that rematch clause in the contract.

Shame for Barker, but he looked in big trouble even before the hip went. Macklin & Lee would have a good **** at Sturm

Cant see it tbh, Still a class above Lee IMO

Seems like a lot of people were on that accumulator. Anyone fancy Ormond? Looked at the weigh in and Matthews is huge for a lightweight.

Seems to have been good money for Ormond.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Sturm seems like a gent anyway.

This Butler fella has some defence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Just watching Paul Butler now and each time I see him I get more impressed. His opponent is very strong physically and keeps coming but in general is getting outboxed. If Butler has good stamina (and he looks fresh still) and a good chin he really can go a long way. Very skilful.

Was/Is Barker really a hype job? He is good solid pro but no-one was taking him as a GGG killer.

He's trainer not sounding overly optimistic for Barker. So hard to take, feel for Barker

Whos the commentator on boxnation. Keeps on giving Montoya rounds even tho everything he is throwing is blocked... The Welsh co commentator is spot on in what he is saying.

I learnt from this forum, its nearly always better to watch fights on mute.

Ill be honest and say this is the first time Ive seen him .
I don't like the way he's staying on the ropes, most of them shots are blocked because the mexican is throwing hooks but get someone who has a bit more variety in their punches and he might be exposed.

That's fair enough, but he won't meet as many who are as strong and as aggressive as tonight's opponent, meaning he won't be on the ropes as often in the first place. He looks very comfortable on the ropes anyway, which is a good thing.

If I was being picky I'd say he should turn the knuckle more when punching with the right hand - his left is beautiful.

Anyway, I'll be watching out for him even more now. He's quality.

Butler is very very classy, can't say I know too much about super flyweight though but he looks like he has the potential to be world class.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,001 ✭✭✭Big Ears

Box Nation can never seem to get where a fighter is from right.
Gary O'Sullivan was announced as being from Dublin, and now the presenter has twice said Stephen Ormond from Belfast.......FFS !

For a title fight, why is this a ten rounder?

Exactly what I was wondering. This is supposed to be a WBO European title fight? Surely it should be 12?

This fight is there for the taking for Ormond.

Agree. He's actually the neater boxer, so if he just throws enough punches he can outwork Matthews.
In fairness I think he's really warming into it now and upping the workrate.

    Doing well now.
