A flight listed on dublin departures today is fr061 to North Pole. Anyone know the details of this? Is this for families, kids to visit santa in what other airlines call Lapland ?
Hoping this thread does not become a place for wisecracks about Ryanair , flying to South Pole and offering bus transfer etc...

Better hope swanwick get their act together or they'll be delayed!

On a serious note, its most likely a charity flight for kids who are long term sick at crumlin or temple st.EI are running their annual Santa flight for sick kids this evening.

Wow weird one that. Some already suggested that was it. I reckon they were right. On one ryanair flight I was on, a child was shown the flight cabin. I think he was autistic. It all looked preorganised, flight went without incident.

Ryanair do a yearly Santa flight for the kids of the staff, it's generally a different destination every year and they get brought to a pantomime, zoo or christmas themed park, and then for a dinner and then a meet and greet with Santa and a present. Flight usually comes back into Dublin around 18:30.
When back in Dublin Santa and Mrs Claus are there on arrival to hand out more goody bags for the kids to bring home. Great day for the kids but very tiring

I forgot to mention, while the flight crew and cabin are waiting for the kids they usually bring a group of special needs kids on a one hour flight around British airspace for the kids to enjoy the experience on an aircraft that they would rarely get and then the crew join up with the rest for the meal before all heading back to the airport

Imagine setting off to the North Pole and ending up in Bristol. :(

Still - Fair play to Ryanair.

For a company so obsessed with publicity, they kept this one quiet.
Which is strange given its probably the most positive story they could use to boost their image.

They've been doing this for years, it's not a new thing.

Maybe they're keeping it quiet so the kids don't find out (especially if they believe they've been to the North Pole) - keeping the magic and all that

A lot of airlines do charity work and don't go blowing their trumpets about it.

True. In Ryanair's case they just blow their trumpets whenever one of their planes lands on time !

It's not for a charity, the Santa flight is done yearly for the kids of FR employees.

    Very unexpected

The standard charter package to Rovaniemi, Finland that operates every year is usually listed as North Pole.

I went with the kids in 2011 with Sunway who used EI A320 charters.

Did one of these a long time ago when I was 5-6 and went to Lapland for the day. Flight left at something like 5am and returned back in the evening (can't remember the timing). I remember it was very early as we had to stay in my aunties the night before as it took 2hrs to get to the airport, back in the day where the M1 didn't exist. I was part of the Beaumont's Deaf group on that flight and I'm sure there were other special needs children on that flight. Got to go to Lapland, meet Santa and his reindeers and played in the snow. Also did a craft shop where we made something (which I can't remember either). Came home exhausted but a happy man as I got a lego set :D
