Here are a couple of tables showing how the three Irish golf mags rank the top 15 links and parkland courses. Thought a side-by-side comparison might be useful.

Can't believe Castletroy isn't listed on any of the parklands

Nice course and condition but still wouldn't rank it in the top 15 parklands and I still have to play a few of the top 10 listed. However what's the story with the lack of distance markers in Castletroy? They have a disk on the fairway for 100 and 150 yards but they're partially grown over and very difficult to spot from any distance, what's wrong with a post each side of the fairway? If playing regularly there a gps or laser would be near compulsory.

Golfing Weekly looks the dodgiest, with Dun Laoghaire at 12 blowing its credibility completely out of the water.

I think the Golf Weekly one was the one that was purely based in Public Votes(?)

I suppose if you look at our last few Governments, you can see a similar problem with letting the public have their say.

Golfing Weekly has Waterville as the 15th best Links in the country which personally I think is the most enjoyable golfing experience in the country so their ratings don't work for me.

I thought it was refreshing reading down through Golfing Weekly's list insofar as it went a bit against some of the current trends and favourites. Then I saw Old Head at number 13 on the links rankings... and even if it was a links it would still be a shocking call!

Used to play it a lot but last couple of years it was just the scratch cup so was in top condition. Especially since the changes.

I'm amazed by a couple of things. Firstly that Enniscrone and Carne are only in one if the lists. They are both completely underrated. I would put both ahead of co Louth which I think is very overrated and over priced.

Joking ya? Castletroy is a bland ordinary parkland. Nothing special whatsoever...
