    These days an 8 year old can watch the last house on the left on their phone, so isn't the Irish Film Classification Office very pointless now ?

    I'm 36 and I haven't a ball's notion how to watch the last house on the left on my phone.

    Well I couldn't see age classification being done away with.

    If it was there would be calls for pointless films, games etc. to be banned.

    There would be just a black and white banned or not banned scenario. No Gta or horror films for us.

    Publishers would hate the backlash that would occur if kids could freely play violent games etc here, they would probably enact self imposed bands on games and films as the international backlash would outweigh the financial gains from the small Irish market.

    It would be a mess.

    Edit: just remembered that PEGI take care of games now. Just replace games with films above. :-)

    I completely agree with media being classified and deemed as to whether or not it's appropriate for children. For that reason I think the IFCO should stay in business.

    Where they over step the mark (and I don't agree with) though is censoring that media.

    If something has been labeled as for adults only, why do we need to censor it?

    The thing should have been closed down after they allowed Gigli to be festooned on utterly unsuspecting Irish audiences.

    Yes, I think it should

    I miss the chap who came on before the start to warn about scenes of sex or a violent nature. There was a man I could listen to.

    If by Irish Film Classification Office you mean Miley Cyrus, and by closed down you mean shot in the head with a cannonball and televised on pay per view then yes, I do agree with you.

    Shut it down and just adapt UK film ratings.

    That said, if they have any job vacancies I would apply....sounds like a sweet job.

    I don't think it'd be as simple as just closing it down. Pretty sure they exist in the first place due to various pieces of legislation

    What I want to know is what poor auld Ger Connolly has to do to become the Director instead of the Acting Director. He's been around for years.

    No it shouldn't be shut down
    Then how would parents know if the film their child is going to see is appropriate for their child

    I also think they should be given more powers
    For example they should have bouncers at 15's and 18's movies checking IDs
    To make sure they are old enough to view the movie they intend on seeing

    They don't need bouncers, when you buy the tickets for an over 18, most cinemas will check that you're 18. Those that don't should be fined.

    They can't really check if someones 15 though, without bringing in ID cards. (though I think thats something they should do)

    You don't see many 18-rated films these days

    Just replace the classification system with Father Ted references.

    G = G'wan, G'wan, G'wan
    PG = Careful, now
    12A = Down with this sort of thing
    15A= Arse!, Feck!, Drink
    16 = Those women were in the nip!
    18 = Ride me sideways was another one father!

    Are you serious? Who should those 'bouncers' be employed by.. the state, the cinema?

    Silly idea really, especially considering how much stuff is downloaded these days.

    Yes it should be got rid of. I watched plenty of 18+ stuff when I was around 9 or 10 maybe. Now back in those days the stuff might not be as baad as what is made now but sure it didn't turn me into a serial killer and I doubt it ever will.

    Most people are able to shrug things off as "it's only a film / game" from a very early age. Perhaps there are a few that don't but the parents would know best if that's the case.
