Many clubs offer prize money to the A4 category for riders who position in races. CI instruct trophies / awards for A4 as a rule. Should the non monetary award for A4 placings be strictly enforced ? Or do placed A4 riders prefer monetary prizes ? Value or cost wise, makes no difference to organisers : Just convenient to put collected sign on fees directly into envelopes as prize money.

Is that still a rule? I just searched the Technical Regs and couldn't find any mention of it? Or was it never a rule and just a recommendation.

Anyway, if it were me, I'd prefer cash. But I'm not an A4, so my opinion probably doesn't matter.

I think for A4 some sort of prize for the winner is ok, maybe down to 3rd. I got a prize for 6th which I greatly appreciate, but to be honest it was overkill, the CI point was reward enough. I'm only racing for points and the fun of it. I'd race if there were no prizes.

Total prize money should be a percentage of the sign on fees. (excluding UCI 2.2 level and above with their mandated prize money structures)

Giving €10 to the lad who comes 6th in A3 probably means €210 in prize money for A3 which in turn means you need 21 A3 riders to sign on just to cover the prizes. It's madness giving money down to 6th in all categories. Spend it on cake for the racers and soup for the marshalls.

I feel I may have said this before :)
