Dermatologist- is it worth it?

I've been suffering with mild acne for about 2 years now and my doctor just keeps prescribing duac but I think I'm immune to it now. I'm starting to think it might not be bad skin and might be something else.

Would anyone else recommend a dermatologist? I'm sceptical about going to the gp just to get a referral letter and paying all that money so I was thinking of going private just to avoid the hassle?

You get a refferal letter from your gp and then your insurance will pay the rest. Much cheaper then going directly to the dermatologist.

Insurance doesn't cover consultation costs if you go privately.

you might just need a different prescription. Have you told the doctor that it isn't working? if they brush you off then go to another doctor. Not every med will work perfectly for every person.

Cost of dermatologist (privately) would be about €150 for first consult and probably €100 for each subsequent follow up. If u currently have outpatient insurance (like say VHI Health steps) it would help with some of the cost

While you are weighing up options - do some research on the following supplements 1) Zinc 2) Beta Carotene 3) Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid). U may find u don't need a dermatologist after all.

Go and see a different GP.
