The 'good' bike on the Turbo.

Is there a fear that using 'The good bike' on a turbo can ruin the bike. I'm thinking of the forces etc going through the carbon frame and the frame not being able to move. Another fella told me that sweat dripping onto frame and headset etc can cause major damage.

So, should I just use the older bike on turbo and leave 'the good bike' for nice road spins.

Sorry if this has been flogged to death before.

    MAMIL.

Complete and utter horse manure. Don't worry about it.

Get a hard-wearing tyre for the back wheel, and cover your headset with a towel.

It wasn't this fella that told you about the sweating, was it?

"Get out of my way, I must lean over here to protect my bike from my sweat cos we are indoors! "

Only damage I notice is that bar tape needs to get changed more regularly. Nothing worse than stinky bar tape...

Some of us don't even have a turbo trainer! ;)

Felt has this to say about carbon bikes on turbos:
The loads a trainer puts on a bike are quite different from those which the bike is designed to withstand on the road, particularly when it comes to tensile forces in the seat stay—which try to pull the dropout out of the seatstay. However, Felt has been selling bikes with alloy dropouts bonded into carbon seat stays for four years now. Some of these bikes have been used in trainers, and we have not encountered problems. Even so, we recommend avoiding out-of-the-saddle efforts while riding trainers. However, riding on rollers loads the frame in a similar way to riding the road and should not damage your bike's seat stays or dropouts.

I'm sure other manufacturers have similar statements. Not a ringing endorsement but good enough for me. Stay seated and all should be well it seems.

Thanks for all the replies lads. Think I'll run with the good bike, cover and headset and just stay seated..... for hours :-)

I always drape a towel over the handlebars and headset. I've always used my alu frame in the turbo. Has anyone's frame cracked cos of turbo use? I've never searched to see.

I emailed manufacturer of my bike (kuota). They were similarly luke warm for much the same reasons about using the bike on turbo. They probably have to err on side of caution so it a matter of personal judgement. As i have an alternative bike i dont ride "good bike" on turbo.
