I'd would encourage them to do whatever they felt is best for them.

I would also admire the fact that they are willing to dedicate their life to something they believe in.

I would of course take time out to of my admiration to make jokes about chastity and the fact that there is no God, but only if we have that sort of relationship.

If they were serious.

Tell them to do something worthwhile with their life and laugh.... Actually laugh for a while first then tell them to not waste their life. Then go tell everyone how my friend/family member is an idiot.
