I have a Renault Megane with 17 inch low profile alloys. I'm currently overseas and need to change two tyres. I have four 205/50 R17 on them now and need new rears and I'm being offered two tyres size 205/55 R17 The guy tells me that as long as both rear tyres are the same size, it's not a problem. Is he selling me a doozy ?? Any help is greatly appreciated ;)

215/50 would be much closer in size

Its perfectly legal to put the 205/55x17 on the back OP, As long as the same size is on the one axle you are ok, However its not ideal, plus 205/55x17 are generally 10-15% more expensive!

It shouldn't affect handling or stability very much even tough u are going to a slightly higher profile!

In short, Its not ideal but if its your only option then there is not much to worry about!

Hope that helps, PM Me if you need any more info

also don't understand how a garage stocks 205/55x17 but has no 205/50x17 which are one of the most common 17" car tyres
