    Hi all,

Buying a used car this week but the tax has been out for about 6 months.
Will I be liable for the back dated tax or will the previous owner?

He said he will declare it off the road but I dont know whether you can do that retrospectively.

    Thanks in advance.

Your only liable from the date of your ownership.

you get an rf100 form from the tax office. fill in dates of your ownership and you only have to pay tax from that point on. your not liable for the tax prior to that. bring in the log book with you when you get it aswell.

you can print the new version of the form online.

Declaring the car off -road has to be renewed by a new owner if it is staying off road,, so it doesn't matter if it is declared off or not
