Sorry, didn't know where to put this.

I was just talking to a sky rep. My trial broadband and phone package is coming to an end in January and they are looking to charge me for line rental on a service they admitted they couldn't provide. I'll be cancelling.

Anyway..he mentioned they are looking at launching efibre by the end of the year.
He had no details but hoped to have some by the time I called to cancel in another 2 weeks.

To justify the location of this thread..I'll be cancelling my discounted TV package as well.:D

Anyone know will they be using the eircom network or are/have they been building their own network?

Eircom's of course. To build their own network would cost billions.

Count yourselves lucky to have the option of fibre; out here in the sticks, we have to make do with conventional broadband (not even the ''Next generation'' version, which was launched several years ago now). Pathetic service.

 ... We would be delighted even with "conventional broadband" ... out in the even stickier places we are still subjected to dial up broadband from Eircom :(

Yeah Eircom not bothering with us - we obviously not worth it. Thankfully we are in line of sight to a mast so we can get ripplecom broadband... its not great but its better then nothing.

My sympathies. I remember the days of 14.4k (16.8k) on an extremely good day. Wasn't fun then and couldn't imagine it now

Don't think you have to ring to cancel just go to your new supplier and give your UAN .At least that what I was told when I rang to cancel.

Dial up - think yourselves lucky. Out here in the sticks I can't even get dialup. This is true.
    Thank the gods for wimax.

I asked BT last week, here in the North for an" up to" download speed as Sky are sending their new box to me with On Demand built in.BT and Virgin both announced the latest would be 1 meg.(Sky need min 2 meg to start with.
The main rd,half a mile from the house, has fibre optic cable but the BT lads up the pole told me it would not be coming up my road as the quoted cost was £50K.
Maybe the future up here next year will be 4G?
